Privacy Policy — Pokai Diary

Pokai Diary ("the app", "we", "us") is an offline-first personal expense manager. The short version: your data lives on your phone, you don't need an account, and we don't run servers that collect it.
1. THE SHORT VERSION
- No account, no login. You can use the app fully without signing up.
- Your data stays on your device by default — expenses, receipts, budgets, savings, and split bills are stored locally.
- We don't collect, sell, or share your data. No ads, no third-party analytics or tracking.
- Data only ever leaves your phone when you choose an action that sends it (see Section 4).
2. INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The app stores the following locally, in its private app storage:
- Expense and budget data — amounts, dates, categories, notes you enter.
- Savings entries — amounts and dates you log.
- Receipt images — photos you capture or pick.
- Bill-split data — group names, participants, who paid, each person's share.
- Settings — currency, theme, biometric-lock preference.
This information is not transmitted to us. We have no server that receives or stores it.
3. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT
- We do not require or store your name, email, or phone number on any server.
- We do not use advertising IDs, third-party analytics, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not track your location.
4. WHEN DATA LEAVES YOUR DEVICE (ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE)
- Sharing & exports: when you export or share a report, bill, or receipt (PDF, image, CSV, text), you pick the destination (WhatsApp, email, etc.). The file is then governed by that app's policy.
- Settle Sync (device-to-device): phones exchange split data directly over your local Wi-Fi/hotspot. Peer-to-peer; it does not pass through our servers or the internet.
- Optional accounting integrations: if you connect Xero, QuickBooks, Wave, Zoho, or MYOB, the app sends the expense data you choose to that service using the secure login you authorize. Handled then under that provider's policy.
You are always the one who initiates these actions.
5. PERMISSIONS AND WHY WE ASK
- Camera: scan receipts (optional — you can type expenses manually).
- Photos/media: attach an existing receipt (optional).
- Contacts: pull a friend's name when adding them to a split (optional; used on-device, not uploaded).
- Local network/Wi-Fi: discover nearby phones for offline Settle Sync.
- Biometrics: optional app lock.
- Internet: only for features you enable (optional sync, accounting, FX rates). Core tracking works offline.
6. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
Your data stays on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. For any optional connected service, delete data there and disconnect it from within the app.
7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Pokai Diary is for general audiences, not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. SECURITY
Data is stored in the app's private, sandboxed storage provided by your operating system. Sensitive preferences can be protected with your device's biometric lock. Peer-to-peer Settle Sync transfers are encrypted in transit.
9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy as the app evolves and will revise the "Last updated" date above.
